Oh the Rules, they are a changing! (See the 2019 MSLSGA Rules – Scroll to Bottom of Page)
USGA has introduced a completely rewritten rule book. Some significant changes in rules and interpretations. Plus they are offering a whole slew of training information including some really good, simple, fast videos. CLICK HERE for a great start at understanding the new rules.
Metro Seniors uses USGA as our foundation for our tournament rules and for our handicap system. With everyone following the rules (the same rules) we will have fair competitions and good handicaps.
We have also established a Rules Roundtable to post more information on MSLSGA Rules and interpretations. We will have some special graphics to help the understanding. We will continue with more information throughout the year.
We finished MSLSGA rules review for 2019 in light of the changes at USGA. MSLSGA rules are “local” modifications that are intended to:
- Maintain Fair Play
- Maintain a good Pace of Play
- Adapt for some course issues
- Allow for some seniors issues.
We started implementing some of the rule changes before USGA. Last year we eliminated the penalty for leaving the flagstick in while putting. Plus in 2017 we added a maximum hole score of 9 on any hole. Both can make play a little faster.
But we know that some members did not get the message. We had scores of 10 recorded last year. We also have seen groups doing a time consuming flagstick dance as players approach the green and are putting.
