Norton Erroneously Blocks Metro Seniors Website – False Positives

Norton Erroneously Blocks Metro Seniors Website

We have a new report (7/10/17) of Norton Web Safe blocking the Metro Seniors website and posts as malicious.  This apparently happened because of a broken link that was published and emailed about a Special Event result.  This is NOT a malicious site problem simply a typo.

There is nothing wrong with the Metro Seniors site.  We have security to prevent problems.

Unless a site subscribes (pays) to a Norton service, Norton assumes that the site is malicious.   They will block access for Norton Web Safe users for a wide range of issues.  Including having a variety of files to view and download like our schedules, tournament results, rules, regulations and so on.  We have these to give members information they want.

Requesting Norton to reclassify a site for a non-subscriber is not easy and can be delayed.

Norton Users can report False Positives to eliminate the blocks

If you use Norton for antivirus, you will have Web Safe and you may be blocked from the Metro Seniors website for “false positives” as they call it.

As a Norton user you can fix the problem by reporting “false positives”.  This will reclassify our site as non-malicious and will let you have access again.  This may be the fastest way to fix the problem.

Please use the following links to review your actions for fixing your Norton Web Safe and reporting this False Positive.

This links to Norton’s information on Web Safe and False Positives.  It provides information to fix your Web Safe and reporting errors.  CLICK HERE

This links to Norton process for reporting False Positives.

As an alternative, I suggest that you turn off the Web Safe portion of Norton to access Metro Seniors.

Access Issues for OurGolfStats.com – Login Page

This link currently goes to the OurGolfStats Login Page –http://ourgolfstats.com/index.php From there you should be able to use all the Metro Seniors features in OurGolfStats.

This did seem to work, but the problem seems to have redeveloped for the many redirects.

Division 1, May 5 at Legacy Canceled

Division 1 May 5 Weekly Tournament at The Legacy has been canceled.

Bryan Stitch at The Legacy said,

“As feared earlier in the week, when I called to inform you of the golf course conditions, we will not be able to host tomorrow’s senior event.
We have received another 2.25 inches since yesterday, and most of the course in under water.  Have not been able to cut anything in a week except greens, and some aprons and tees.  It is simply unplayable at this point.
Hopefully this rain will soon end and we can get back to this great game of golf.”
So Division 1, take the time to help a friend affected by the flooding, clean up your clubs and bag, do something nice for someone.  Use use this free time to good purpose.

May 4 Golf Canceled – Divisions 3, 4, and 5 – Possible reschedule

May 4 Weekly Tournaments for Divisions 3, 4, and 5 have been canceled for possible reschedule.

The forecast rain, cold and difficult course conditions would lead to low turnout and a poor member experience.

Please see the VP announcements and respond as requested by VP for possible reschedules.

Access to OurGolfStats.com

Recently, something changed on the internet for OurGolfStats.com, causing all links that start with the world wide web prefix of www. to lose track of what league is being accessed. Any “links” or “bookmarks” or “desktop shortcuts” that you use to access OurGolfStats, should have the www. removed. We have tried to “re-direct” all www.OurGolfStats.com links to plain old OurGolfStats.com, but it looks like some access is leaking through.

Any time that you do get the wrong page, pressing the Ctrl key along with the F5 key should get you to the correct page. The key sequence Ctrl plus F5 tells the browser to go all the way back to the server to get the correct copy of the web page. Once all the search engines re-index OurGolfStats.com, they should have the latest versions of the web pages and you should not see the problem any more. “Should” is the operative word here.

The above key sequence works with Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera browsers. If you use the Safari browser, there are different commands for different versions of Safari. Try one of these

    Ctrl+Alt+E
    Opt+Cmd+E
    Cmd+Shift+R
    Alt/Edit/Empty Cache
    Settings/Clear Cache

Hope this explanation is not too complicated. We are continuing to find better solutions to this issue. If you have any specific questions, send them to CustomerService@OurGolfStats.com.
